DistilBook turns a textbook chapter into a video lesson in about 15 to 25 minutes: it extracts the chapter, condenses it into 8 to 12 key ideas with a spoken explanation for each, and generates illustrated, narrated slides. A 30 page chapter becomes a 5 minute lesson, and open textbooks such as OpenStax PDFs convert directly.
You start free: signing up gives you 10 credits with no credit card, a slide costs 10 credits, so the first slide of your video generates free and you can watch it in full; the rest unlocks on a paid plan. DistilBook accepts PDF, Word, images, plain text, a web article link, or a written prompt, and you approve the AI narration script before anything renders. Paid plans start at $20 per month for 230 credits, roughly 23 slides, which removes the watermark and unlocks MP4 export at up to 1440p. Narration is available in 20 languages, and the textbook to video output can carry your own logo and brand colors. Whiteboard and motion videos can be made in 16:9 landscape or in 9:16 vertical for Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Since April 2026, more than 1,400 people have made over 2,800 videos with DistilBook, most of them from PDFs.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a whole textbook?
Upload one chapter at a time. Free accounts take PDFs up to 10 pages and paid plans raise the limit; for a long chapter, use the page range picker to select the section you need, and the AI condenses it to at most 12 slides.
Does it work with scanned textbook pages?
Yes. Pages without selectable text are read with OCR before the script is written. Check the extracted text at the review step for misread formulas or figures.
Will the video cover everything in the chapter?
No. It teaches the 8 to 12 ideas that carry the chapter, which is what a good summary lecture does. For a specific section, upload only that section or name it in the brief.
Is it allowed to convert copyrighted textbooks?
Converting material you own for your personal study is generally fine. Publishing the video is a different matter, so for shared or public videos use open textbooks such as OpenStax, or your own material.
Can I get the lesson in my language?
Yes. A chapter in English can be narrated in Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, German or any of 20 languages, with on-screen text to match.
