Can I use my own voice for the narration?

Last updated

Yes, on the Pro and Max plans (and Credit Packs of $50 or more). Open My Voices, record about a minute of your voice in the browser or upload a recording, and DistilBook creates a cloned voice in a few seconds. It then appears under My voice in the voice picker, and you can pick it as the narrator for any whiteboard or motion video, in any of the 20 narration languages. Pro keeps 2 voices and can create 4 new ones a month; Max keeps 5 and can create 10. Basic and free accounts narrate with the built-in AI voices, male and female, in 20 languages. Uploading a finished voiceover file to replace the generated narration is not supported.

What do you need before you start?

  • A Pro or Max plan, or a Credit Pack of $50 or more.
  • About 1 to 2 minutes of your own speech, recorded in a quiet room (a phone or laptop microphone works).

How do you do it, step by step?

  1. 1

    Open My Voices

In the dashboard sidebar, open My Voices and choose Clone my voice. Confirm that it is your own voice and that you are 18 or older.

  2. 2

    Record or upload

Pick the language you will speak and read the passage shown, or any text, for about a minute. Or upload an MP3, M4A, WAV, WebM or OGG file of up to 20 MB.

  3. 3

    Name it and create

Give the voice a name. It is ready in a few seconds, and you can play a short preview.

  4. 4

Pick it when you create a video

On the create form, open Voice, switch to the My voice tab and select your voice.

What are the limits?

The honest list, so you know before you start rather than after.

  • Pro keeps 2 cloned voices and can create 4 new ones a month; Max keeps 5 and can create 10. Deleted voices still count toward the month.
  • Clone only your own voice. The recording is used to create the voice and is not stored.
  • A finished voiceover file cannot replace the generated narration.
  • The voice is chosen before generating; narration locks once generation starts.

Common questions

Will my voice work in other languages?

Yes, in all 20 narration languages. In the language you recorded it keeps your accent; in other languages it speaks with a natural native accent.

What happens to my voices if I change plan?

If you move to a plan without voice cloning, or from Max to Pro, your voices are kept but locked until you upgrade again. If you cancel, they are deleted 30 days later unless you resubscribe.

Can I record narration and sync the animation to it?

Not yet. The animation is timed to the generated narration, so each element appears as the narration reaches it.

Which voices are built in?

Several male and female AI voices, each available across the 20 narration languages.
