How do I make a video in DistilBook?

To make a video in DistilBook, open your dashboard and choose a format card: Motion Explainer for fully animated motion graphics, or Guided Explainer for a hand-drawn whiteboard lesson drawn live. Add your source (a PDF, Word, Markdown or text file, an image, a web link, or a prompt), set the Length, Language and Aspect ratio, pick a style, and press Generate Video. DistilBook writes the narration and pauses so you can review and edit it. When you press Generate Video again on the narration screen, it draws each slide and voices it. The first narrated slide is usually ready in about 6 minutes.
What do you need before you start?
- A DistilBook account. Signing up gives you 30 credits with no credit card, and a slide costs 10 credits.
- Something to explain: a document, a web link, or a topic you can describe in a sentence.
How do you do it, step by step?

Choose a format
On the dashboard, press Create on Motion Explainer (fully animated, in sync with narration) or Guided Explainer (step-by-step teaching, drawn live like a whiteboard). Product Explainer is a third option for a product website.

Add your source
Motion Explainer has four tabs: Prompt, Narration, Files and Web URL. Guided Explainer has Files, Image and Web URL. Files accepts PDF, DOCX, MD and TXT.

Set the video up
Choose the Length (the number of slides follows it), the Language and voice, the Target Audience and the Aspect ratio, 16:9 Landscape or 9:16 Portrait. Then pick a style.

Review the narration
Press Generate Video. DistilBook writes the script and shows every slide's narration so you can edit it. Nothing is drawn yet.

Generate
Press Generate Video on the narration screen. Each slide is drawn and narrated in turn, and you can watch the first one while the rest are made.
What are the limits?
The honest list, so you know before you start rather than after.
- The narration is locked once generation starts, so read it before you press Generate Video.
- Free videos carry a watermark, and the Length options above 60 seconds are on paid plans.
- PDFs can be up to 10 pages on the free and Basic plans, 30 on Pro and 999 on Max.

Which format should I pick?
Guided Explainer for lessons and step-by-step teaching in a hand-drawn whiteboard look. Motion Explainer for fully animated videos in a motion-graphics style. Both use the same narration review.
How long does a video take?
The script is ready within a couple of minutes. After you approve it, the first narrated slide is usually ready in about 6 minutes, and an 8 to 10 slide video takes about 35 minutes.
Do I need a document?
No. In Motion Explainer you can use the Prompt tab and describe the topic, and DistilBook writes the video from that.
