The Simi Alternative With 19 Styles and a Real Editor
A script you approve, a real editor, 19 styles instead of one, and your logo on every plan.
DistilBook is the Simi by Lamina Labs alternative for explainer videos that have to look like yours. DistilBook starts at $20 a month, the same price as Simi's $19.99 entry plan, and includes your logo and brand colours on every plan. On Simi, branding is a Business plan feature with custom pricing. Simi generates a finished video in one pass, so what you get is what it made. DistilBook gives you an editor: it writes the script and shows it to you before anything renders, then lets you edit each slide's narration, images, title and animation. You also choose from 19 styles, a set of hand-drawn whiteboard looks plus motion-graphics styles, where Simi offers the whiteboard look only.

Why do people look for an alternative to Simi by Lamina Labs?
Branding needs the Business plan
Simi lists branding under Business, which is custom priced. A small team cannot put its logo on a lesson from the $19.99 plan.
One pass, no editing
Simi generates the finished video in one shot. There is no step where you read and correct the script first, and no per-slide editor afterwards.
One visual style
Simi makes whiteboard-style videos. If a topic needs a different look, there is nowhere to go.
A five minute ceiling
Most Simi plans cap a video at about five minutes, with longer runtimes reserved for Business.
What does DistilBook include that Simi keeps for its Business plan?
Same price to start, with branding included
$20 against Simi's $19.99, and your logo and brand colours are on every plan. On Simi that takes a custom-priced Business plan.
A real editor
Read and correct the full script before anything renders, or paste your own exact wording. Then edit any slide's narration, images, title or animation. Nothing about the video is take it or leave it.
19 styles, and you can direct the artwork
A hand-drawn whiteboard look with its own set of sketch styles, plus motion-graphics styles. A visual instructions field lets you tell it how the artwork should be drawn.
Original artwork for every slide
Each slide is illustrated from what that slide is actually about, so a finance lesson and a biology lesson do not share the same stock drawings.
Long videos on a normal plan
Up to 18 whiteboard slides in one video, around 36 minutes, on a standard plan. Most Simi plans stop at about five minutes.
Landscape and vertical
Whiteboard videos in 16:9 landscape or true 9:16 vertical for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, on every plan.
Sharper export
MP4 up to 1440p. Simi lists 1080p.
